Project goal
The Gardens of Yonder is a richly layered children’s novel that blends fantasy, mystery, and emotional depth into one epic journey. I was responsible for the full illustration series as well as the book’s graphic design, shaping both its visual language and overall presentation.

My approach
To reflect the story’s dreamlike, sometimes surreal atmosphere, I created moody, intricate illustrations with a balance of softness and contrast. Characters and settings were designed to evoke curiosity and tension, guiding the reader visually through a world that feels both strange and familiar. I also designed the book’s layout and typography, ensuring a coherent tone throughout.

Result
The book was published in the Netherlands by Palmslag in 2015 and became a cherished title for readers seeking more than a conventional children’s story. Its images helped build an immersive reading experience that echoed the emotional arc of the story.
